What Is the BOSE Fund? Blue Owl Capital’s New $3B Bet on Continuation Vehicles

Private equity funds have a built-in problem. They’re designed to buy companies, improve them, and sell them within a set timeframe, usually 10 to 12 years. But what happens when a fund reaches the end of its life and the sponsor still believes a portfolio company has room to grow? Bloomberg’s company profile for OWL provides additional data on the firm’s financial standing.

    Continuation Vehicles, Briefly Explained

Rather than force a sale, the sponsor can transfer that company into a continuation vehicle: a new structure with fresh capital and a new timeline. Existing investors can cash out or roll over. New investors come in. The sponsor keeps managing the asset. (otic.com)

This approach has gone from niche to near-mainstream. GP-led secondary transactions reached $47 billion in the first half of 2025, up 68% from the prior year. Continuation vehicles made up 87% of that figure (https://www.digitaljournal.com/pr/news/winston-news-wire/blue-owl-capital-closes-debut-1987456445.html). For perspective, GP-led deals accounted for just 19% of secondaries volume in 2014. By mid-2025, that share had climbed to nearly half.

Everyone wins. Sponsors keep managing assets they believe in, LPs who want liquidity get it, and new investors enter a company with a known track record rather than a blind-pool commitment. It’s a structure where everyone at the table gets something they want, which explains why the market has grown so quickly over the past decade. Moody’s recent upgrade of Blue Owl’s BDCs to Baa2 further validates the credit discipline behind the firm’s lending operations.

Blue Owl Capital Enters the Picture

“Sponsors are looking for long-term, aligned capital to support high-conviction assets,” Blue Owl Capital’s Co-CEOs Doug Ostrover and Marc Lipschultz said. That’s the thesis behind BOSE, or Blue Owl Strategic Equity, which was closed on February 11, 2026, with more than $3 billion in commitments from institutional and private wealth investors. The fund targets single-asset continuation funds and direct minority equity transactions, giving PE sponsors the patient capital they need to hold assets longer. Blue Owl Capital brings a permanent capital model that suits continuation transactions particularly well.

    The Platform Behind the Fund

Blue Owl Capital doesn’t come to continuation vehicles as a newcomer to GP relationships. The firm’s GP Strategic Capital platform manages $69.1 billion in AUM and controls 87% of the market for deals above $600 million. The broader firm raised $56 billion across all channels in 2025, ending the year at $307.4 billion in total assets. The credit platform accounts for $157.8 billion of that total. That kind of balance sheet gives sponsors confidence that Blue Owl can commit at the scale continuation deals often demand, and the firm’s permanent capital model means it won’t need to exit on someone else’s timeline. The OWL ticker on Yahoo Finance reflects the firm’s scale with a 10.87% dividend yield.
