Lafayette is a big city in Louisiana, and it has warm weather throughout the year. The swamps, parks, and forests around Lafayette make it a paradise for people who love the outdoors. The city has the best hospitals in Louisiana. And hospitals with stroke education certification in Lafayette, LA, provide the best care to stroke victims.

Nearly 15 million people suffer a stroke and five million die. Another five million have become permanently disabled. The risk of death is high in stroke and many who survive experience loss of vision or speech, confusion, or paralysis.

    Two major types of strokes

    Ischaemic stroke

In Ischaemic stroke, the artery that carries blood to one brain section is blocked. Brain tissues need a constant supply of oxygen; when the blood supply is blocked for more than a few minutes, the brain tissues will die. It is permanent damage that causes a scar on the brain.

    Hemorrhagic stroke

Hemorrhagic stroke is a condition where a blood vessel inside the brain ruptures. Blood spouts out of the artery, and the pressure with which blood oozes out damages the soft brain tissues. It leads to swelling and inflammation within the brain, which causes more injury.

    Symptoms of stroke

Numbness or weakness of arm, leg, or face, especially on one side

Difficulty in talking or understanding speech

One or both eyes have trouble seeing

Difficulty in walking due to dizziness or loss of balance

    Severe headache without any reason

    How to treat stroke patients

Stroke is common in people above 40 years and is caused by hypertension. The stroke victims must be taken immediately to a hospital with doctors specialized in emergency medicine and a stroke education certification. These hospitals have the best treatments to reduce mortality rates and improve long-term outcomes.

When people suffer a stroke, they lose 1.9 million neurons per minute. Therefore they need to be treated quickly to enable them to walk and live without disability. Hospitals extensively assess and treat patients as quickly and efficiently as possible.

    Three types of stroke centers

Primary stroke centers: Primary stroke centers provide standard stroke care, including clot-busting medications.

Thrombectomy stroke centers: These centers have all the facilities available in the primary stroke centers. Additionally, they provide high-quality thrombectomy care throughout the year.

Comprehensive stroke centers: Comprehensive care centers take care of the people most affected by a stroke and require intensive surgical and medical care. It includes people with bleeding in the brain.

    How to avoid stroke

Monitor blood pressure: High blood pressure leads to stroke. People with high blood pressure must treat it immediately. They must avoid high cholesterol food and restrict salt consumption.

Reduce body weight: Obesity increases the chances of stroke. Losing weight by changing the diet and doing exercises helps to prevent stroke.

Treat diabetes: Diabetes damages the blood vessels over time and increases the chances of forming clots inside them. Maintaining the blood sugar level is essential to reduce the chances of stroke.

Quit smoking: Smoking increases the formation of clots by thickening the blood and expanding the plaque buildup in the arteries. Quitting smoking and making lifestyle changes reduces the risks of stroke.

Hospitals with stroke education certification in Lafayette, LA, are highly skilled in properly treating stroke victims. These hospitals comply with the standards of care and offer quick treatment to reduce the damages caused by stroke.
