The Enviropass SVHC list 

In our day-to-day life, companies and factories release chemicals to the environment which can harm the environment and human health. The REACH and RoHS compliance regulations restrict companies from using substances with contain substances of high concern. The Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) list always get updated with addition of more chemicals. The SVHC list was lastly updated on June 26th 2020 when four more substances were added to the European REACH SVHC list.

The substances which made their way to the SVHC list include 1-vinylimidazole, 2-methylimidazole, Butyl 4-hydroxybenzoate, Dibutylbis(pentane-2,4-dionato-O,O’)tin with all of them considered to have a threshold of more than 0.1% of  at the homogenous material level of every component and material in your product is considered to be a RoHS hazardous substances. 

The substances which made their way to SVHC list had the following properties:

  • Carcinogenic in nature.
  • Highly toxic when comes to reproduction.
  • Very persistent.
  • Bio-accumulative and toxic (PBT).
  • Very bio-accumulative and persistent.
  • Had endocrine-disrupting chemical.

Various products may contain these substances, these products may be electronic and electrical products, chemicals, paints, plastics and even toys. Before production and manufacturing companies release their final products to the end user, they need to verify that the products have no substances that cause harm to the customers or the environment.

If a product has a product is having at least 0.1% concentration (weight by weight), all they need to do is communicate to the ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) within six months. The SVHC is committed to tracing the chemicals in the products. If any product produced and sold within the European Union is found having traces of these chemicals it can lead to a company being banned from importing the product to the European Union market.

If a company is found producing or importing product with the SVHC substances it will be charge a fine or face a complete ban of the article from being imported to any European country.
