Sumo Entertainment JD3 Tips For Traveling With Production Gear

According to Sumo Entertainment JD3, traveling with production gear can be a real doozie, but here are some tips to help you move more efficiently and keep your gear from getting damaged:

    1. Don’t overpack- Overpacking can prove to be a huge problem. Some filmmakers will know all they need is one camera body and a couple of lenses, but they will haul audio gear, accessories and a bunch of other stuff they do not need. Unless you will be shooting in the middle of nowhere, this is very unnecessary. Just bring exactly what you need.
    2. Use Carry On Cases- the last thing you want is to damage equipment worth thousands of dollars. Instead, invest in Pelican cases. Make sure to check size requirements when traveling on airlines before your trip.
    3. Get Customs Clearances- If you will be traveling overseas with equipment, try to get everything precleared by customs to avoid being held up. Customs might ask to see proof that your camera was originally purchased in the United States. If you bought it overseas, you can be taxed to some degree. Also, make sure to have all the documents you need.
    4. Get Insured- Your equipment is more likely to be damaged on the road. Anything can happen, so ensure that equipment is adequately insured. Make sure to double check that your current policy will cover what’s needed while traveling or out of the country.
