Understanding How ICSI Treatment Is A Boon

Being a parent is the most awaited phase of a person’s life. And it is a most rewarding thing if you love children crawling all about the house. It is God’s gift to man and the most beautiful experience in one’s life. But for some, it becomes a painful thing that they feel better avoiding because they are not able to reproduce the natural way.

But take heart, medical science has advanced in leaps and bounds, and today, becoming parents is not a very big issue at all. There are many fertility centres in Delhi and in fact, all over the country that can help to overcome this problem.

They conduct tests on both partners. And if it is found out that the man specifically is unable for some reason to produce sperm or is having some sort of problem, then he can undergo ICSI treatment.

What Exactly Is ICSI Treatment?

The full form of ICSI is intracytoplasmic sperm injection. In the ICSI procedure, the sperm or eggs are gathered from both partners to make the fertilization process happen. This is the major difference between IVF and this procedure.

While undergoing ICSI treatment, a single sperm is injected right into the egg artificially. This procedure is performed on people with critical and major infertility issues.

When Is The ICSI Procedure Essential?

ICSI procedure becomes essential in couples with:

  • Low sperm count. It is so low that even artificial insemination or other procedures are not possible
  • Low sperm motility
  • Sperm attachment is a problem with many males. The sperm is unable to attach to the egg while penetrating
  • Hindrance in the male reproductive organ blocks the movement of the sperm
  • When IVF test results are negative
  • When the sperm is being used for previously frozen eggs
  • The sperm is differently shaped

The ICSI Procedure

When a couple undergoes IVF procedures, the female partner is given treatment by stimulating her ovaries. This brings about several mature eggs ready for fertilization. The treating doctor will collect them and preserve them for later use by freezing them. Simultaneously the doctor will continue with the procedure of sperm collection. After that, the best sperm is selected and injected directly into the egg.

This artificially fertilized egg takes almost 5 days to mature and grow in the lab. The mature embryo is then transplanted back into the womb of the female partner. Then the waiting period begins, wherein the woman undergoes routine checkups from time to time.

Conclusion

Many fertility centres in Delhi give ICSI treatment, but it all depends on the couple being treated. The age of the woman under the scanner is a very important aspect to consider. This process does not guarantee wholly that a couple can become pregnant, but there is a 25% chance that they will because egg fertilization happening have a chance of 50-80%.

But even if you are not in that bracket of 25% of couples who are lucky, do not lose heart. You can always try again and again, depending on your desire to become parents.
